Rules of fair behaviour in Kupla
Approved at Kupla’s autumn meeting on 25th November 2020
Adapted from the AYY association guide:
https://yhdistysopas.ayy.fi/equality/?lang=en
- No harassment or inappropriate behavior is allowed in Kupla
- Harassment is insulting behaviour directed at an individual’s personal characteristics, such as gender, age, origin, world view or sexual orientation. Harassment can be directed at a person directly or indirectly – a sexist or racist joke, for example, is harassment, even if it is not meant to be hurtful.
- Inappropriate behaviour can be, for example, excluding someone from a community, even if it is not connected to any of the abovementioned personal characteristics. The establishment of groups of friends is natural, but associations should be open to everyone interested in the topic, and everyone should feel welcome in the operations of an association.
- Kupla does not allow discrimination in any form against individual groups of people or individuals. Among other things, the following forms of discrimination are not allowed
Discriminatory language use in communications or events, discriminatory behavior, discriminatory practices and discriminatory traditions (link: Equality Act (1325/2014))
The Non-discrimination Act’s §8, Prohibition of discrimination, reads as follows:
“No one may be discriminated against on the basis of age, origin, nationality, language, religion, belief, opinion, political activity, trade union activity, family relationships, state of health, disability, sexual orientation or other personal characteristics. Discrimination is prohibited, regardless of whether it is based on a fact or assumption concerning the person him/herself or another.”
- As far as possible, Kupla takes into account a wide range of members
- English speaking members
- Alcohol-free partygoers
- New members who don’t yet know other people from Kupla or the traditions Kupla
- Members of Kupla should be treated with respect, in this regard
- You must not comment on another person’s appearance and personal characteristics in a nasty, sexist, chauvinistic or racist manner, especially if the person receiving the comments finds them unwanted.
- If someone remarks on your own behaviour, do not stubbornly argue back but think about your behaviour and be prepared to apologise.
- If someone asks to stop the disturbing behavior, it must be stopped.
- Let’s be open and listen to others. We avoid making assumptions about other participants, because we cannot know other participants’ experiences, thoughts, life situation and self-defined identity on their behalf.
- However, since most of the time we make assumptions about others, let’s try to be aware of our own assumptions.
- Kupla’s decision-making must be transparent and based on the decisions of the association’s meeting or the decisions of the board elected by the association’s meeting.
- Operations must be planned in such a way as to guarantee the continuity of operations for new Kupla generations. For example:
Software and instructions must be clearly understandable and accessible to new active members.
- The costs of alcoholic beverages are distributed only to alcohol consumers
